At home, the wallet app is available on your own network. To use it while you’re away, set up remote access for your platform.

Umbrel recommends Tailscale for remote access. Install the Tailscale app from the Umbrel App Store, install Tailscale on the device you want to connect from, and sign both into the same Tailscale account. Your Tailscale address then works anywhere you would normally use umbrel.local, so you can sign in to umbrelOS and open the wallet app just like you do at home.

Remote access extends who can reach your wallet app. Anyone who can sign in to your umbrelOS can open the wallet app and spend from it, so keep your umbrelOS credentials safe.

A VPN such as Tailscale gives your devices a secure connection back to the machine that runs the wallet app. Install Tailscale on that machine, install it on the device you want to connect from, and sign both into the same Tailscale account. You can then open the wallet app from anywhere at http://<your-machine-tailscale-address>:5173.

Remote access extends who can reach your wallet app. Turn on password protection first, under the Self-host tab on the installation page, so that a password is required before anyone can spend.

Browsers only allow the camera and clipboard on HTTPS or localhost, so the Scan and Paste buttons stay hidden over a plain HTTP connection.
